Weird Writing Prompts by Janeen Ippolito

Hello, writer friends! Hey, so have you ever struggled with getting to know your characters? Or trying to figure out what should happen next in a story? It’s okay. Every writer does. That’s where writing prompts often help authors develop wild and wacky ideas that they may not have thought up on their own.

Established writers and aspiring writers often want to talk about different tools and strategies to use when crafting a novel or a non-fiction book, so it’s high time I started posting more content on this site. I’m excited to get back to posting here regularly, and I’m starting off with one of my new favorite writing resources: Weird Writing Prompts by my friend and fellow publisher Janeen Ippolito.

BOOK BLURB

Get more out of your writing prompts!

Weird Writing Prompts is a short book loaded with questions to jumpstart your creativity, dive deeper into your characters, and rev up your book marketing.

Oh yeah, and some questions are weird. Like “trap your characters in an elevator with an emu” weird. Because everyone needs a little weirdness to refresh their writing lives!

Grab this book to:

-Get Deep & Random – Expanded prompts with ideas to make your characters epic, plus absurd situations to unlock your creativity with play

-Get Sharing & Marketing – Author-centric questions to fuel your marketing brain and help with social media content creation

It’s time to refresh your brain, supercharge your story, and have fun with your marketing!

MY THOUGHTS

Character work is hard, y’all. It can be great at times, sure, but more often than not it can be really tedious. And my experience with character design and plotting is that when the process gets tedious, your work loses its sparkle. So if you can keep the process fun, your characters and plots will only get shinier! And that is where this hysterical resource comes into play.

An example? Okay, this one made me cackle….

Time for a three-legged race! Your protagonist is paired up with your antagonist. What happens? Do they win? Do they both stay alive?

Think about the different scenarios you can develop from just that prompt alone. (For those of you who’ve read Ronnie Akkard & The Brotherhood of Blades, could you imagine a three-legged race where Ronnie and Warlord Jinsoku had to be tied together? I can’t stop giggling.)

If you’re writing a story, you need this book on your craft shelf. It will challenge your imagination, breathe life into your writing, and you’ll probably laugh yourself silly at the same time.

WHERE TO BUY

For now, you can find Weird Writing Prompts on Amazon. As per usual, they’re being a little difficult about the paperbacks (seriously, you wouldn’t expect that COVID would traumatize the printing industry too), but the Kindle version will be available on July 13.
